13 Things Most People Don't Know About Alyson Hannigan

Do you ever just put on Netflix, scroll through your list of things to watch, and still end up choosing something you've watched at least five times before?!  That's definitely me. When I get home from work, I immediately watch How I Met Your Mother. I just really miss the gang and their crazy adventures. I wish I could say that I loved each character equally, but I can't. My favorite was always Lily! I think I loved her character so much because I also love Alyson Hannigan. She's done more than HIMYMand Buffy the Vampire Slayer! Find out more about her life below!

1. You know you've made it big when you have songs written about you! "Alyson Hannigan" by Juvenile Wreck and "This One Time" by The Malcolm Effect were both written about her!

"This One Time" is a reference to her famous line from American Pie: "This one time, at band camp..."

2. You can thank Alyson for the Buffytheme song. She made Joss Whedon listen to it and it was ultimately chosen as the theme song!

3. Her character on Buffy mentioned in an episode that she used to write Doogie Howser, M.D. fan fiction when she was younger. Neil Patrick Harris, her co-star on HIMYM, played Doogie Howser!

How crazy is that?!

4. Alyson was the only one of the cast members on HIMYM to not have a musical number... and that was on purpose!

"I begged them not to make me. Yeah, singing has never been something that I wanted to do publicly. It’s actually like a phobia."

5. Alyson broke down in tears when she talked about saying goodbye to Jason Segel, who had played her on-screen husband. 

"He's just such a wonderful guy, she said. "I'm not good at answering this question at all. I'm on a daytime talk show crying, this isn't how it's supposed to go."

6. Her real-life daughter was fired from playing her on-screen baby on HIMYM! 

"They fired my kid from that role. She was gonna be the baby, but [producer] Carter Bays was like, ‘Nope. She’s too old,’ and she got replaced."

7. Alyson wasn't the original Willow on Buffy! They had already shot the pilot with another actress in the role but realized she wasn't a good fit for Willow. They found Alyson and said that she completely nailed the audition!

Can you even imagine anyone else playing Willow?! 

8. Alyson and Sarah Michelle Gellar are still very good friends. 

9. Alyson's husband, Alexis Denisof, played Sandy Rivers on HIMYM! He was the morning news anchor who worked with Robin and had a huge crush on her!

10. Alyson became famous because of American Pie! Is she going to let her daughters watch the movie? She said she's going to sit them down and have a conversation about it before they get to high school!

That's going to be one awkward conversation...

11. She was pregnant twice while on HIMYM. With the first pregnancy, the creators didn't want Lily to be pregnant at the same time, so they used to hide Alyson's baby bump behind really random props! 

"I hid behind a globe or some popcorn."

12. Alyson has another weird connection to a HIMYM co-star! She used to babysit Bob Saget's kids when she was a teenager. 

13. Alyson's secret talent is that she can do crazy things with her feet! She can tie her shoes with her toes!
