This Grown-Ass Dad's No-Nonsense Review Of The Unicorn Frappuccino Is A Must Read

SHARE
Have you noticed all of these purply blue drinks in everyone's hands the last few days? It's not a Pumpkin Spice Latte, so I have been confused. I found out that Starbucks just released its Unicorn Frappuccino, and women from near and far are flocking to get a sip. As a grown-ass man and father of two kids, this drink isn't what I would usually order, but I've been kinda curious. I went to a local Starbucks downtown to give this drink a try. Here's a review of my findings.

SHARE this article with your guy friends who haven't tried this drink because they think it's too girly.

1. So, I decided to give this unicorn frap a taste for myself. What could all of these women actually like about this drink other than the pretty colors?

After stepping foot in a local Starbucks, I reluctantly ordered a tall Unicorn Frappuccino. The color of this drink reminded me a bit of the food in the movie Hookduring the food fight scene.

2. The fraps are ready and it's go time.

3. Here I am with my frap. If you can't already tell, I am extremely self-conscious about holding one of these drinks, let alone taking a picture with one around people.

The picture on the right captures the awkward moment I had making eye contact with an alpha male in the room who looked at my face, down at my drink, and back up at my face.

4. First off, the drink is beautiful. Starbucks gets an A+ for aesthetic appeal. I don't even care about colors and this impressed me.

5. This is me, skeptical AF of this drink but giving it a real chance.

6. After throwing back a couple of hefty sips, I'm immediately hit by intense mango as well as subtle hints of elderberry and walnut.

Kidding, of course. The mango was pretty nice and left my mouth satisfied. I was expecting more of a grape taste because of the color, but I'm open-minded.

7. OK, I'm quite impressed. This shit is good.

I have a long way to go, though. Let's keep sippin'. Starbucks claims there is a trick to making the frap super delicious. You are supposed to mix up the whipped cream with the rest of the drink. Why? There are tangy little bits in the the cream that will boost the overall flavor. It was kind of difficult to mix up, but I gotta say, it worked.

8. This is how I felt after consuming the first third of the frap.

Could I really be loving the unicorn frap??

9. This drink is pretty dense, but I slowly made my way from here to the halfway point.

Bill approves.

10. Hey, I finished it, though!

Let's go through some of the pros and cons of this drink. I won't count the fact that they misspelled my name on the cup.

11. Like I said before, the visual appeal of this drink is hard to match. It's hard to admit, but I really liked the mango flavor too.

The overall flavor wasn't too intense, but just strong enough to match the visuals on this drink. The sourish taste on the whipped cream was a nice surprise at the end too. I don't think I would have been able to finish any size larger than a Tall, though. The only bad thing I would say about this drink is that — for me — it was just too sweet. I have a feeling this wouldn't be a problem for most people who want to give it a try.

12. At a more metaphysical level, I'm proud of myself for trying a "girly" drink. Pumpkin Spice Latte next? Maybe!

I think there's a pretty good chance that I will branch out to drinks other than my typical Venti Blonde Roast after this. If I had one request, it would be to have a higher caffeine content; I run on that stuff. Overall, this drink gets a rating of 8/10 unicorns. Let's go through a few examples of the internet reactions people are having to this drink craze.

13. This truly is a craze. Check out this picture @glindsey1003 posted to Instagram.

"Yes it's a person with a selfie stick, in a #Unicorn mask, drinking a @starbucks unicorn frappuccino - this the most Internety thing on the internet this morning!" they wrote.

14. A flurry of memes have also appeared online capturing the colorful nature of the drink and its sugar content.

15. For many, this drink was super delicious.

"Just as magical as I hoped! #delicious" wrote @leahdawnweedon.

16. While all of the reviews may not have been this enthusiastic, there's no doubt that the drink brought a little joy to people's week.
