Instagram Named 'Most Narcissistic Social Network' And It Wasn't Even Close

It's looking more and more like this will be the generation that replaces faces with phones. Just go on Instagram and see for yourself. Yes, there are plenty of pretty faces out there, but there are also many who disappear behind their phones. More than ever, people are leveraging social media as a way of filtering their public images in ways that don't reflect reality but do boost their egos. And to do so, most are going to Instagram.

The mirror doesn't lie, but social media accounts? Oh yes, they can be manipulated. It shouldn't come as much surprise that that's exactly why many people use social media: to boost their public image in ways that don't necessarily mimic reality.

The king of social media networks for people who want to make themselves look good? Instagram.

A survey of more than 3,500 college students named Instagram the most narcissistic social network, and it was overwhelming.

Facebook, Snapchat, and Twitter couldn't even add up their votes to match Instagram.

Just a casual scroll through Instagram accounts shows why so many voted for it. From gym dwellers to fashionistas to social butterflies, Instagram is the selfie platform.

As lendEDU, the company behind the survey, notes: "Users that post on Instagram are fueled by one thing: likes." They also found that 78 percent of participants had deleted a pic or knew someone who had deleted a pic because it didn't get enough likes.

Popularity on social media is overtaking real life accomplishments for determining where you rank in life.

On Instagram, "likes" are one of the only ways to interact with other peoples' posts, so users will wrap their egos up in how many likes they can get – a very narrow way to derive self-worth. It's no wonder Instagram draws in narcissists.

Do you agree that Instagram is the most narcissistic social network?
