Yet lately, nothing seems to excite these conspiracy theorists quite like the Illuminati. They generally seem to agree that the organization is secretly running the world, but whether they're helmed by Satanists, Freemasons, or Reptilian aliens seems to depend on who you ask.
This would certainly come as a surprise to the organization's founder, Adam Weishaupt, who intended the secret society to create "a state of liberty and moral equality, freed from the obstacles which subordination, rank, and riches, continually throw in our way." It might seem strange to go underground with such an agreeable mission, but they were considered pretty dangerous to the Duke-elector of Bavaria, who imposed the death penalty for anyone found to be a member of the Illuminati in 1787.
The organization collapsed pretty quickly after that, but for whatever reason, it seems to have emerged as a cultural boogeyman once again. And today, we're going to talk about someone who seems poised to keep it that way.
An Imgur user by the name of stevestig76 claimed to have the inside scoop on the secret society. More than that, he says this juicy information was revealed to him personally because he was supposedly a former member of the group.
His profile is no longer available on Imgur (I guess we can infer whatever we want from that) but this is what the Daily Star was able to collect before that happened.
Be sure to COMMENT and tell us what you make of all this Illuminati business.
Imgur user stevestig76 claims he was recruited by the shadowy group at 19.
He says he was a member of the Illuminati for 47 years but that he had to get out after a particularly explosive meeting.
Commenters generally didn't take his post seriously, and it seems his choice to reveal the organization's secrets on a meme-heavy image community didn't help his case much.
As one user put it, "Ah yes, Imgur is the exact place I would want to reveal a huge government conspiracy."

Yet the Imgur user certainly seemed serious about what he found out in his time under the Illuminati's wing.
As a refreshing change of pace from other conspiracy theories, he said the moon landing did really happen, but the Russians beat us to it by about seven years. Oh well, you can't have everything.
Speaking of Russia, he also said Putin is a member who controls Asia. Like, all of it.
You'd think it would be hard not to brag about either of these things, but that sweet Illuminati gravy train comes at a price, I guess.

Also, the Illuminati have supposedly figured out how to control the weather.
This was apparently possible through the High-Frequency Active Auroral Research Program in Alaska, which stevestig76 said is able to "shut off the sun." Considering that the whole project was set to shut down two years ago and that it largely existed because solar flares kept messing with our electrical grids, that's a really tough one to swallow.
For some good news, however, it turns out President Obama isn't a member of the secret society.
Again, this comes as a refreshing change of pace considering how many conspiracy theories have him at the front and center in their dealings.
Yet stevestig76 has some grim things to say about all the world's leaders and what we all have waiting for us.
