But every kid has that one toy they can't stop playing with. Seldom is that toy educational, however. But for parents of clever, curious kids, the need for something that can capture and expand their minds is real. Thankfully, there's a new resource those often frustrated parents can turn to.
It's not always easy for parents to encourage a child who shows an interest in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math.
Those fertile young minds need encouragement and engagement, but it's not like you can find many suitable toys to get their minds going on the shelves at Walmart.
However, e-commerce giant Amazon is trying to help parents with a new STEM toy subscription box. Amazon has divided the subscriptions into three age ranges: 3-4, 5-7, and 8-13.
For $19.99 plus tax, every month each subscriber will receive an age-appropriate STEM toy that Amazon says is handpicked by their editors to challenge young minds. Some of the examples include programmable robots, crystal kits, arithmetic toys, and classic chemistry sets.
The initial reviews have been about as mixed as you might expect, with many raving about their kids' reactions to the first box, and others lamenting the fit with their kids.
What one child loves another will hate, naturally. As always, take them with a few grains of salt.
If nothing else, it's a promising start and a great idea to get the next generation of scientists and engineers involved and engaged.
Don't you wish something like this was available when you were young?
