11 Ways Carrie Fisher's Death Is Gonna Change The New 'Star Wars' Movies

Star Wars VII: The Force Awakens was the sequel sci-fi fans were waiting for.

It had amazing visual effects, it felt fresh, the humor was on point and the movie was basically beloved as the perfect way to enter into Disney's new trilogy.

One of the sweetest parts of it was how they mixed the newer characters with the classic ones. But with the tragic passing of actress Carrie Fisher, the trajectory of the story needs to change.

But by July of 2016, all the shots of Star Wars: Episode VIII were already done filming, so everything that Carrie Fisher needed to do in the film were already done.

So the question is, how do they go forward?

1. They'll need to edit the storyline of Star Wars: Episode VIII to either a) kill off her character at the end or B) kill off her character in Episode IX.

Based on how Han Solo went out in a blaze of glory, the same should be seen for Leia. But the point is that re-shoots might be in order like for Rogue One.

2. If Leia dies on-screen, Kylo Ren is an orphan and will have Uncle Luke Skywalker as his only living relative.

Was Carrie Fisher's character's future arc supposed to involve confronting her son Kylo Ren as his mother?

3. Is General Leia leaving the storyline going to turn Kylo Ren evil or steer him towards the light? My thoughts are towards the dark side.

She was supposed to confront him in the upcoming film or Episode IX.

4. The Resistance is going to need another leader now to face the First Order AKA the new Empire. She was one of the oldest members of the original Rebel Alliance.

5. The power vacuum of leadership of the resistance is going to have to fall on Finn, Poe Dameron, Rey, or possibly another new character.

6. There's going to need to be more CGI to write the character off-screen, but not a lot seeing as fully CGI characters — especially of humans — is expensive to pull off. So, get used to this:

The slightly-off character models like the ones we saw in Rogue One for Grand Moff Tarkin and young Princess Leia.

7. The Hollywood Reporter saidthat Leia was supposed to have an even bigger role in Episode IX than in Episode VIII. That will put producers in a tight spot, especially since most shooting of Episode VIII is already done.

One of the key scenes that were going to happen in the two upcoming films was Leia reuniting with her brother.

8. Despite all the talk of death being a way to transform into the Force, Leia's death will break Luke since he has no relatives he grew up around anymore.

I mean, now that whole arc has to be in the movies too...

9. Episode VIII is going to supposedly deal with Leia finding out that her own son killed Han, so how will they possibly stretch this out or change her arc? They only have footage for Leia that assumed she was going to be in Episode IX.

10. Because she's one of the few original actors, it is going to be VERY difficult to kill her off-screen. So, expect a giant CGI scene or battle where she dies.

11. She can't ride into the sunset with her kid because it'd make more sense that she'd reunite with her brother in Episode VIII and confront Kylo in Episode IX

So will Luke take on the burden and flex his family muscles more than he was originally intended to?
