"Ellie said, 'I just decided if Granny can't come to my party, I just don't want to have it,'" Ellie's mom, Kimber, explained.
"With her being a December baby... we've always made her birthday parties a big deal. And as the party got closer and closer, she just got really upset one day and started crying."
So Kimber called the nursing home. Not only did they agree to host the party, but everyone decided it would be more fun to surprise Grandma with it.
"I loved it. It was so much fun. My favorite part was pretty much seeing the look on Granny’s face," Ellie said.
Ellie and her grandmother had always been really close. Rita had never missed a birthday before. She even cut the umbilical cord when Ellie was born.
"It's just hard to see her having such a hard time and I was just scared that something might happen and this might be one of the last events," Ellie explained.
"They have always had a very special relationship, which I had with my grandmother too. We have some good women in our family," Kimber said.
Everyone had a great time, and you can tell that the last-minute change was worth it for this Very Merry Un-Unbirthday!
