Did you know what the loop was used for? COMMENT and let us know!
Things like, why did the U.K. vote leave the European Union?
What are the holes on the side of Chucks used for?
And most recently, what is that weird loop on the back of a button-up used for? Well, we have answers for a lot of these things, but let's focus on the button-ups.
Here are the loops in question. Not every button-up has one, though they are pretty common.
What are these loops called? There are actually a few names that they go by.
The first name is "locker loop."
Alternatively, they are sometimes called less charming names such as "fruit loop."
Or even worse, "fairy loop."
So, what exactly are these locker loops used for? Exactly what their name implies. They were meant to be hung up on those little hooks inside of lockers.
Locker loops were introduced in the '60s to provide a more convenient way of hanging shirts inside of lockers or on doors.
I mean, how else would you fit a shirt into one of these without throwing it into a ball?
The trend started in the U.S., though it spread outwards later on.
It was also a trend to remove the hoop as a sign of being in a steady relationship.
While the loops definitely are convenient, it's not recommended that you hang your shirts up this way anymore as they could become wrinkled much quicker.
Because nobody wants a wrinkly shirt, right?
