16 Facts About Movies That Sound Fake But Are Totally True

SHARE
One of my favorite things to do after watching a movie for the first time is to go read up on the all the cool behind-the-scenes facts about it.

Some of the facts end up blowing my mind, and I barely believe that they're real. That's the case for these movies with some of the most bizarre facts that are 100% true!

1. Julia Roberts was paid $11,952 for each word she spoke in Valentine's Day.

Isn't that insane? She had 251 words in the whole movie, and brought home a whopping 3 million dollar paycheck for it.

2. Melissa McCarthy revealed that for her character in Bridesmaids, she drew style inspiration from Guy Fieri.

You know, the host of Diners, Drive-ins and Dives.

She even wanted to wear short, white spiky hair, but was told no (which is a crying shame).

3. Chance the Rapper loved the movie Get Outso much that he bought all of the movie tickets from Chicago theaters so people could see it for free.

He wrote in one of his tweets, "Just pull up with an ID and enjoy the movie."

4. Bill Murray was almost cast as Han Solo in Star Wars.

Could you even imagine?

He was also almost Forrest in Forrest Gumpand Buzz from Toy Story. I would have loved to see those auditions.

5. Robert Pattinson had never even heard of the Twilightseries when he auditioned for the movie.

I find this hard to believe, since you couldn't go one day without hearing how "amazing" the books were back then.

Apparently, he only auditioned because he liked Kristen Stewart's acting in Into the Wild.

6. Aladdin was developed to resemble Tom Cruise.

Funny enough, he was initially supposed to look like Michael J. Fox, but the character didn't appear to have enough appeal to women, and thus a Tom Cruise look-alike was born.

7. In The Hangover, Ed Helms (who plays Stu) is actually missing a tooth in real life, so no prosthetic was needed.

He never had an adult incisor grow in, and had been wearing a fake one for years.

He simply took it out for the scenes where he was missing a tooth.

8. The Sex and the City movie was considered one of the first to ever feature a character using an iPhone.

Miranda hands her phone to Carrie, but Carrie gets frustrated and says "alright, I don't know how to work this."

How times have changed!

9. Gal Gadot hid the fact that she was five months pregnant while shooting some of the scenes in Wonder Woman.

She had to wear a costume with a green screen around her belly that could be edited afterwards — which is why you can't tell!

10. While filming the restricted section scene in the first Harry Potter, the makers had to ask for special permission to use flames in the library.

The scene was filmed in the Bodleian Library in Oxford, and their rules are typically very strict about open flames — and the rule was broken for the first time in hundreds of years just for the movie.

11.  The Michael Myers' mask in Halloweenis really just a Captain Kirk mask, but painted white.

William Shatner (Captain Kirk) even revealed that he once went trick-or-treating with his daughter while wearing the Michael Myers mask.

12. Ian McKellen voiced Cogsworth in the 2017 version of Beauty and the Beast, but had actually turned down the same voice role for the 1991 animated version.

That would have been SO cool if he had done voices for both.

13. Tronwas banned from winning an Academy Award for special effects because computer animation was considered "cheating."

We've certainly come a long way since the '80s.

On the bright side, it did receive the Academy Award for Technical Achievement...14 years later.

14. It took a whopping 48 pigs to complete the movie Babe.

Apparently, pigs grow really quickly, and they needed Babe to stay the same size.

Bonus fact: there were 56 animal trainers on set, and a total of 1,000 animals altogether.

15. Remember all those bubbles in The Little Mermaid? There were millions of them, and each one was hand-drawn.

That's an insane amount of work that ended up being tasked to a firm in China. So next time you watch that movie, give the bubbles some extra love.

16. While filming Avatar, director James Cameron would allegedly take a nail gun to any cell phone that rang while on set.

I wouldn't even risk bringing it work, tbh.
