8 Tell-Tale Signs Of Cervical Cancer

SHARE
Cervical cancer is one of the world's most common types of cancer affecting women. Fortunately, it doesn't come up as often in the United States. This is because screening for cervical cancer comes down to a routine checkup, so it's fairly likely that any issues will be caught early enough to be successfully treated. In many cases, cells can be caught changing before the cancer even develops, preventing it altogether.

Public knowledge of HPV is also much more commonplace nowadays, which is good because it's the leading cause of cervical cancer. While it's certainly possible to contract HPV without developing any cancer, modern pap tests tend to check for both of them to minimize the risk even further.

Still, that doesn't mean it's any less crucial to be aware of the signals your body can give you when the threat is afoot. Doctors usually recommend getting a pap smear every three years, but you don't want to wait if you start showing unusual symptoms between them.

With that in mind, here are 8 warning signs your body will likely show if you have cervical cancer.

1. Vaginal Bleeding.

If it's not time for your period and you're experiencing bleeding down there, this is cause for concern because it's the most common early symptom of cervical cancer.

Bleeding after sex can sometimes have some more obvious sources like lack of lubrication or trauma, but in rare cases, this can also be a sign. While there are many reasons a vagina can bleed, it's best to make sure you can rule cancer out when it happens.

2. Unusual Vaginal Discharge.

If you don't recognize the fluid, it's a very serious sign that cancer is looming. This is especially true if you notice an unpleasant odor along with it.

3. Pain During Sex.

If there's no clear reason why is sex is painful for you, especially if nothing seems to be different from before, this is a clue that cervical cancer has made its mark.

4. Pelvic Pain.

Unexplained pain in the pelvis or lower belly regions has also been identified as a warning sign. This may seem a little vague, but if you're getting it at the same time as other symptoms it gives you a clearer picture of what's going on.

5. Changes To Your Bladder And Bowel Habits.

As cervical cancer gets more advanced, it can affect how you go to the bathroom in several possible ways. Some women have reported constipation, while others have reported the loss of bladder control. It's also possible to start seeing blood in your urine at this stage.

6. Unexplained Weight Loss.

This can usually come with a loss of appetite and indicates that the cancer has started to spread.

7. Leg Swelling.

If you feel one of your legs start to swell and have noticed other symptoms of cervical cancer, this likely means the cancer has caused a blood clot to form.

8. Fatigue.

Again, there are many reasons why you could often feel tired or feel a lack of energy, but it's a warning sign that works in concert with the other symptoms of advanced cervical cancer.
