This 'Ordinary' Roadside Barrier Could Save Millions Of Lives

A South Korean company has designed a new form of "roller" guard rail aimed at saving millions of lives resulting from high-speed collisions with classic metal guard rails. You have to check out this simple yet powerful new railing system...

Most guard rails look something like this.

This small metal barrier is put into place on highways and other roads to prevent people from driving off the road.

The problem with these metallic rails is that they can cause a lot of damage to the vehicle impacting it.

The vehicle may have avoided going off of the road, but the passengers can be severely injured.

South Korean company ETI has developed a revolutionary new guard rail system that could potentially save millions of lives.

The idea behind the new rail is that it can help a vehicle move away from the railing after making impact.

Let me explain...

This is it, believe it or not.

It doesn't look all that revolutionary at first glance, so let's take a look at why it make be helpful.

If we take a close look at the yellow objects on the rail, you'll notice that they are big rollers.

Essentially, when a vehicle comes into contact with the yellow rollers, they will be "pushed" along, reducing the impact force applied to the railing.

As you can see in this graphic, when a vehicle hits the rail, they will move continuously along the rail until they eventually stop.

You'd be surprised, but the rollers can handle the impact of just about any size of vehicle.

Let's take a look at what happens when a vehicle comes into contact with the new railing...

In this slow motion gif, you can see the yellow rollers absorb the shock of the car's impact and quickly redirect the vehicle back onto the road.

Here is an aerial view of a large truck hitting this type of rail.

Handles it with ease!

It's fascinating how such a simple idea can potentially save the lives of so many people.

Here is a video showing the yellow roller rail in action!
