The Baby On Nirvana's Album Cover Is All Grown Up Now

There's that old saying, "Never judge a book by its cover." Well, If I'm going to be honest here, I totally do it anyway. The same goes for movie posters and album covers. There are so many album covers that have become iconic. Everybody can instantly picture the Beatles crossing Abbey Road. But another picture everybody remembers is the album cover for Nirvana's Nevermind. That baby became instantly famous and people still wonder about the baby who posed for the photo. 25 years later, the baby is all grown up and you won't believe what he looks like now!

Nirvana was one of the great American rock bands. 

People still mourn the loss of Kurt Cobain as a songwriter, singer and guitarist. 

Nirvana is probably still best known for their song "Smells Like Teen Spirit" from their second album, Nevermind. 

Everybody recognizes their logo!

The band found unexpected massive success with that album and the baby on the album cover found some fame of his own. You have to see what he looks like today!

Spencer Elden is now 25 years old!

Whoa. 

Spencer was only a few months old when he appeared on the album cover. 

The photographer, Kirk Weddle, reached out to Spencer's parents and simply just asked if it would be ok for Spencer to be part of a photoshoot for an up-and-coming band called Nirvana. 

Kirk had been trying to get the perfect photo by taking pictures of babies during their swimming classes, but none of the pictures turned out the way that Kirk or Geffen Records wanted. 

Supposedly, the famous photograph was taken in a 15 second photoshoot! The executives at Geffen Records loved the photograph and decided to add the fish hook with a dollar bill after. 

Since everybody at the time thought it was only a photoshoot for an up-and-coming band, Spencer's parents were only paid around $200.

Nobody had any idea that it would become one of the most iconic album covers of all time. 

These days, Spencer lives in Los Angeles with his mom and he focuses on making art. 

He has mixed feelings about being the famous baby. "Looking back, it feels kind of stupid doing interviews about it, because I had nothing to do with it, but a lot to do with it all the same time."

Spencer even recreated the album cover!

“It’s a really weird feeling being a part of someone else’s momentum – being caught up in this wake of stuff.”

Spencer has never met the two surviving members of Nirvana (Dave Grohl and Krist Novoselic). He said that he has tried to contact them but never was able to get through. 

Spencer said if the Dave and Krist were willing, he would love to meet them just to chat. So here's hoping Spencer will get his wish!
