12 Out-Of-This-World Facts About 'Interstellar'

SHARE
Everybody knows by now that Christopher Nolan only directs the most epic movies ever. It's 2017, and I still want to discuss the ending of Inception. What does it all mean? Was it a dream? WAS IT REAL?! To be honest, nothing's changed except that I now want to also discuss Interstellar with everyone. I've watched it so many times and I still love it. It's beautifully shot, and it leaves you asking so many questions about what's out there in outer space. Let's revisit Nolan's masterpiece by learning some of the amazing behind-the-scenes facts about the movie!

1. Anne Hathaway went method for her role as Amelia Brand.

"This time (on a film) I gave myself permission to go a bit more Method. As a result, I was not my most fun — this is a character who has a deep social awkwardness. I felt bad for anyone who had to talk to me between takes."

2. Anne was more than ready to do this movie. She geeked out on set and even freaked out when she first tried on the space suit!

3. According to Matthew McConaughey, the spacesuits only weighed 40 pounds.

They're lucky they got to wear those suits. Matthew said real spacesuits weigh closer to 100 pounds!

Can you imagine trying to act in that?

4. The set of Interstellar was no joke. When the cast was filming in the icy cold water of Iceland, Anne's spacesuit had a rip in it and she had to deal with hypothermia!

5. When Christopher Nolan offered Jessica Chastain the role, she cried "nerd tears." She loved that the movie was about space but that it really focused on the bond between a father and a daughter.

6. The movie never actually reveals Cooper's first name.

It's a long and complex movie. The filmmakers just didn't have time!

7. Christopher decided to grow 500 acres of corn for the cornfield scene. It worked and after the scene was over, the corn was sold and it made a profit!

8. Hans Zimmer composed the music for this movie without even knowing what the movie was about.

9. The explanation of the wormhole using a pencil and paper isn't unique to this movie. It was also seen in the movie Event Horizon.

10. Jessica barely got to know her co-stars! "Because they are in different worlds in the film, I felt slightly that way on set because we never even had a cast dinner or anything that brought us together."

She got to know them when they were together doing press, though!

11. Matthew completely left his wife in the dark about this movie. She had no idea what it was about until Matthew finally told her when filming was over.

12. Did you notice that the space station is in the shape of a clock face? It's all about time, even down to the props!
