Well, if you keep going further and further underwater, where the sun no longer reaches, the creatures start to become strange. One horrifying creature that sea explorers have had a particularly hard time capturing on video is the deep-sea anglerfish. This fish is also known as the "Black Seadevil" and has a particularly nightmarish looking face. The anglerfish has a mouth that seems to take up most of its face and is filled with teeth that resemble long slivers of broken glass. Oddly enough, the anglerfish is completely invisible to its prey and kind of makes you wonder why it needs to look so scary. This real-life sea monster has been quite difficult to find and divers often need to venture as deep as 600 meters under water (roughly 2,000 feet) to find it. For the first time EVER, the deep sea vehicle Doc Ricketts has captured this sea monster on camera in Monterey Bay for all of us to see!
Not displayed in the video is the rather unusual way that the anglerfish reproduces. Female anglerfish are much larger than its male counterpart and are impregnated by tiny males that cling onto her body and live off of her like a parasite for its entire life. The video captured by Doc Ricketts is the larger female version of the fish.
