1. Invest In The Basics
I know you've heard this before, but never underestimate the power of basics. A black dress, pair of fitted blue jeans, white blouse, and navy blazer are the necessities of every wardrobe, as you can style them in about a million different ways.
2. Pattern Properly
Limit wearing your favorite patterned outfits, as these are the most noticeable items when repeated! Everyone loves a good striped top, but you probably shouldn't wear it every week.
3. Be Social Media Savvy
If you have an absolute favorite outfit, resist the urge to post it to social media! It'll be less familiar to other people when you don't have it showcased in your profile picture.
4. Work Your Circle
Knowing your audience is key when it comes to repeating outfits. If you know you'll be hanging with totally different crowds, go ahead and repeat that awesome outfit!
5. Experiment With Combinations
A great tip for subtly repeating clothing items is to experiment with different colors, patterns, and styling options. No one will notice you're wearing the same item again if you pair it with something totally unexpected.
6. Accessorize
This is the easiest and my personal favorite tip for subtly repeating outfits. Throw on some statement jewelry to instantly disguise the fact that you're wearing the same clothing pieces. The options are seriously endless when it comes to accessorizing.
7. Switch Up Hair & Makeup
A simple (and fun!) way to detract from outfit repetition is to switch up your hair and makeup. If you normally wear your hair down, throw it up in a chic ponytail or bun. When it comes to your makeup, try out a bright or bold lipstick.
8. Add A Jacket
An excellent trick for subtly repeating outfits is to add a jacket into the mix. Because jackets are such noticeable pieces, they'll cover up and distract from regularly-worn items.
9. Statement Shoe
It'll be hard for people to notice an outfit repetition when you're rocking a totally awesome statement shoe! Throwing on a bright, heeled, or edgy shoe or boot is the perfect way to add some distraction to any outfit.
10. Layer
Adding or subtracting layers is a great way to bring some variety to well-worn pieces. Try out different combinations of jackets, pullovers, cardigans, and scarves to follow this fashion tip.
11. Belt It Up
Belting your outfits at the waist is not only superflattering, but it's also a great way to detract from wearing the same outfit. I love how she's cinched her blue coat and blouse with this chunky black belt.
12. 3-To-1 Rule
Fashion bloggers and stylists everywhere swear by the 3-to-1 rule when it comes to repeating outfits. The rule basically says that you can wear solid-colored pieces three times more than printed or patterned ones, simply because they're far less noticeable. Sounds legit to me!
13. Eye-Catching Handbag
Distract from re-wearing a favorite clothing item by adding an eye-catching handbag to your outfit. Bold-patterned and bright-colored bags generally make for the biggest statements!
