15 Shopping Tips Essential To Surviving Black Friday

15 Shopping Tips Essential To Surviving Black Friday

There's every other shopping day of the year, and then there's Black Friday. The Christmas shopping season kicks off with one heck of a frenzy, and if there's anything you can count on, it's the combination of deals and stress.

Making the most of the big day is a challenge, but it can be done. Here are a few tips to keep in mind so you don't have to shop 'til you drop.

1. If at all possible, leave kids at home.

It's going to be a long day, with plenty of time spent standing in lines, and probably many bags to haul around — not an ideal scene for the kiddos.

2. Prioritize the deals.

Because lists aren't only for Santa, make a list of all the things you want at each store, with the must-haves at the top so you know what to target and don't waste time browsing.

3. Check eBay for discounted gift cards.

It's not uncommon to find people selling gift cards for less than the face value — if you know you're going to be hitting Best Buy hard, grabbing a $100 gift card for $90 ahead of time puts you $10 ahead.

4. Get emails from the stores on your list.

You never know, folks on the email lists might see deals that don't go out in fliers or on the website, so why not sign up? You can always unsubscribe later.

5. Make a backup plan.

Because the hottest deals are going to sell out fast — people will literally crash doors to get door crasher deals — it's unlikely that you'll get absolutely everything on your list, so think of some alternates before you hit the stores.

6. Make a budget and stick to it.

It's so easy to get sucked into the deals and you'd better believe the impulse buys will be as tempting as they ever get. It all adds up awfully quick. If you can manage, take cash and leave your plastic at home.

7. Shop with a friend.

Not only is this a prime bonding opportunity, but it's almost necessary to divide and conquer on a busy day like Black Friday. And just think of the saved time in the parking lot if you carpool. Teamwork makes the dream work!

8. Don't go to Walmart.

Just don't. Of course they have great prices, but everybody knows that, which means that everybody shops there...and everybody loses their minds there. If there's a Wild West of Black Friday, it's at Walmart.

9. Start early.

Even if a store isn't open on Thanksgiving, their website will be up and running. If you can find what you want online, you might just be able to avoid the rush altogether.

10. Use technology to your advantage.

Hey, while you're waiting around in those lines, things could be happening online, so check your phone regularly. If the blender you're holding drops to a lower price on Amazon, why wait around? Speaking of which, don't forget to charge your phone!

11. Speaking of technology, get the app.

If you do brave Walmart or Target, their apps can do things like guide you to the items you want to purchase. Alternately, Amazon's app lets you scan a bar code so you can compare prices more easily.

12. Take snacks.

If you think the stores at the mall are crowded, wait until you see the food court at lunch time. When you pull out your turkey sandwich, you'll feel like a genius. Thanksgiving leftovers for the win!

13. Check store policies before you shop.

Not every store will have a great return policy for all your purchases — some will charge a re-stocking fee that could dig into your savings, or only have a 30-day policy — and many will suspend their price-matching policies for Black Friday.

14. The lowest price doesn't always mean the best deal.

Yeah, maybe you can get a TV for $100. But is it a good TV? You might be able to grab better tech for $200 with a deep discount, so you'll get more bang for your buck.

15. Don't just shop for Christmas presents.

Look ahead to birthdays and weddings coming up in the new year and grab something nice while it's at the deepest discount of the year.

Good luck out there!

12 Life Hacks That Will Make Mom's Life Easier

12 Life Hacks That Will Make Mom's Life Easier

Anyone who has ever had to clean crayon off the wall, keep children entertained in the backseat of a car, or clean the entire house only to find it a disaster 10 minutes later knows one thing: motherhood can be exhausting.

Of course we love our little ones more than life itself — but we also love our sanity. And when you’ve cleaned paint off the floor so many times that you start to wonder if you should just leave it there, it may be time for a helpful life hack or two.

That’s why we’ve compiled 12 tips to make life just a little bit easier. We know being a mom can get stressful, but these helpful suggestions will make your day a bit more manageable, one step at a time.

1. Use a shoe organizer for a clean, entertaining car ride

A shoe organizer on the back of a seat helps keep kids occupied during long road trips and also provides you with a great spot to store road trip essentials. Stuffed animals and coloring books are in hand's reach for your little travelers, and you can store snacks, sunscreen or bug spray along the lower compartments to have on hand whenever needed.

2. Prevent outlet danger

It’s a fact of life: little ones are curious. Turn around for five minutes and they’re putting something in their mouth… or in an electrical socket. Covering your sockets is extremely important to keep your children safe. A cheap fix is applying two band-aids over the outlets and voilà – you’ve created a safer environment for your little ones in seconds!

3. Avoid slips and falls with a hot glue gun

We want our kids to be active... but not at the expense of their safety.

Avoid trips and falls in your house by using a glue gun to create non-slip shoes. Just apply dots or a zig-zag pattern along the bottom, allow time to dry, and your child will be able to play on tile or hardwood with safe socks and slippers!

4. Create labeled laundry bags

Whose socks are these? Do these jeans belong to Jimmy or Jason? Organizing laundry can get confusing, especially when you have numerous kids running around the house. A simple solution? Color-coded laundry bags! Designate a different color for each of your children. Then, toss the entire mesh bag into the laundry, saving you hours of organizing all of your family’s laundry.

5. Take a photo on family trips

Amusement parks are a lot of fun for kids — but sometimes their excitement can carry them away, and before you know it, they've run out of your sight. A five-second tip that could come in handy when visiting crowded locations? Take a photo before you start enjoying all the fun. If your family gets separated at any point in the day, you will have a recent photo of what your child was wearing that you'll be able to provide to lost child services if needed.

6. Put a turntable in your fridge

We’ve all been there. You open your fridge and notice a funky smell, only to realize last week’s leftovers have grown moldy in the back of the fridge. Whoops!

As much as we try to regularly clean our fridges, food, leftovers and condiments can pile up quickly. A quick, cheap, and easy solution? A turntable! Store whatever you need and just spin it around for easy access.

7. Create a coloring book drying rack

We love our kids' artistic creations. The mess that can be left afterwards, though? Not ideal.

That's why a drying rack is the perfect organizer for any kid's play station. Throw in coloring books and paintings that can dry off after art time, and store markers, crayons, paints and brushes in the cubby. Arts and crafts just got a lot tidier.

8. Save time with magnetic drinking cups

This tip will save you time, get your kids to drink more water, AND it means less dishes for you. It’s #winning all around! Simply apply some self-adhesive magnets onto the back of your kids' drinking cups and stick them to the fridge. Now little ones can grab a cup of water any time, hassle-free.

9. Add zip-ties to your stroller

Want more traction for your stroller while on slippery ground? Try attaching some cheap zip-ties around the wheels of your stroller. The ties will add an extra groove on the wheel, helping you roll the stroller over gravel, ice, and bumpy sidewalks with ease.

10. Soundproof your home with pool noodles

“No slamming the doors!” Feel as though you’ve said that line one too many times? You’re in luck: we’ve found a cheap solution that takes just minutes to make. Simply cut a pool noodle and stick it on the edge of doors in your home. Your ears will thank you.

11. Ask for extra Starbucks cups for mess-free painting

Next time you’re treating yourself to a frappuccino, ask your barista for a few extra cups... they’ll come in hand for your next paint party!

The plastic lid is the perfect solution to ensure your kid has the proper amount of paint on their brush, and it guarantees that paint doesn’t end up all your table. And the best part? Once those masterpieces are created, you can simply rinse out the cups and pop em’ in the recycling bin. Talk about an easy cleanup!

12. Use cupcake liners for mess-free popsicles

When the sun is shining on a hot summer day, popsicles can be a refreshing treat. However, when they start melting too fast and start dripping all over your children’s fingers and clothes, it can create a messy situation. Thankfully, cupcake liners are a cheap solution.

Just pierce your child’s popsicle through the liner, and save yourself from doing another load of laundry!

Wonderful And Wacky Christmas Trees That Will Make Your Ordinary One
Boring

Wonderful And Wacky Christmas Trees That Will Make Your Ordinary One Boring

Christmas is coming up really quickly. One of my favorite traditions has always been putting up the Christmas tree. When I moved out, I didn't think I would miss having one of my own, but I did! So I went and got one — a fake one — but I decided I wanted to use non-Christmas colors for my decorations, and I thought that was pretty cool.

Turns out I have nothing on some of the people out there — check out these amazingly weird trees!

This is pretty much my dream tree. What's cozier than curling up and reading on the holidays?

This is pretty neat — probably took a while, though! How did they get that up there?

This is really beautiful. If you're not a traditional Christmas person but love nature, this would be an awesome tree.

The only thing that would make this fruit tree better is if it was all real and ready to be eaten.

That's one thing to do with your empties! I bet it looks pretty with lights on.

All I can say is whoa... This is pretty cool. I don't really know what else to say.

I absolutely love this! I think they did The Nightmare Before Christmas proud.

Alright, I think this one takes the cake — what do you think? Let us know in the COMMENTS and don't forget to SHARE!

Simple Decluttering Hacks To Set You Free

Simple Decluttering Hacks To Set You Free

It’s a simple mathematical fact: all those shopping trips, birthdays, online spending sprees and even just our daily lives, mean we bring a lot of stuff into our homes. Stuff that sits there. And sits there. And then gets shoved to the back of the closet/garage/handbag/car to make way for more stuff. And before you know it, you’re drowning in clutter.

Clutter doesn’t just take up room in your house, it fills your brain, making it difficult to concentrate and causing irritability. But freeing ourselves from clutter doesn’t have to involve clutching each item and assessing the level of happiness it brings us. Here are our top decluttering hacks you can do right now to set yourself on the path to minimalism (or at least a clearer wardrobe).

Small containers for small items.

Most of us have one drawer that contains a variety of odds and ends that rattle around whenever it is opened — yet we never seem to be able to find what we are looking for when we need it. Use small containers, pill boxes and tackle boxes with different compartments to organize small objects like batteries.

A simple shelf on the inside of the pantry door becomes an organizer for all those rolls of foil, wrap, and wax paper.

Some items ingeniously double as declutterers.

Wine racks are one of those items. They can be used to store purses and bags...

...as well as serve as a towel holder.

Every appliance, gadget, and piece of technology these days comes with a manual — which together soon form a large collection of paper. You can get rid of that pile today.

Download the digital version of the manuals you actually need and store them in the one place.

Store and organise your coupons and vouchers in an expandable file.

Stuffed in our wallets or screwed up on the bottom of our handbags, they are rarely used and soon become just another piece of rubbish.

Don't restrict pantry shelves to the pantry!

They are the perfect shape and height to create an extra shelf for shoes.

And while we're at it, don't restrict pants hangers to pants.

They are also an excellent way to store boots.

Velcro was made for those on a mission to declutter.

This hack could mean never losing a remote control again.

And making sure stuffed toys are always accessible and tidy.

Double the storage space beneath the sink.

A simple rod becomes a place to hang cleaning bottles and rags.

A hanging fruit bowl in the shower is a great way to store bath toys.

The flow of air keeps them dry and stops mold developing.

Overflowing and unmanageable utensil drawers begone!

Hang them neatly on hooks and they will always have a home.

And while we're in the kitchen, how about doubling or even tripling your storage space?

Peg boards are a versatile and easy way to add baskets and boxes where you need them.

Use paper clips to keep cords neat and untangled.

Create an anti-clutter system.

It's simple. Everyone in the house gets a basket. As stuff accumulates around the house during the day it is placed into the relevant baskets, which the owner is responsible for putting away before bed. Stick with this one and you'll never need another decluttering hack again.
