'Sesame Street' Introduces Their First Character With Autism

The popular children’s television show Sesame Streethas always had a range of interesting characters, and now there’s a new kid on the block — her name is Julia and she has autism. The character was created to raise awareness for the condition and will give viewers a chance to learn all about the challenges and advantages it presents. Julia is the newest member of the Sesame Street gang and she has autism.

Her eyes are green and her hair is red.

She's just like the rest of the characters, only she does things a little bit differently.

Julia is not as verbal, but she still loves to sing and play.

It's safe to say the crew is pretty excited to meet her.

Her character is part of an initiative called "Sesame Street and Autism: See Amazing in All Children".

The goal is to promote a better understanding of autism, and reduce the stigma that often surrounds it.

Autism is characterized as challenges with social skills, repetitive behaviors, and communication.

But children with the condition also have a unique set of skills.

She’ll make her TV debut on Sesame Street in the “Meet Julia” episode on April 10.

Which will give children a chance to learn all about autism.
