But sadly, it seems as though there are some schools across the country that may treat policy too strictly when it comes to whether or not a child will be fed lunch.
When a Georgia middle school student approached his bus driver one afternoon back in 2013 to tell him that he was hungry and was refused lunch that day, the bus driver took action that had major consequences.

Johnny Cook is a horse trainer and school bus driver in the great state of Georgia.
Back in May 2013, a student approached him on the bus with something troubling to say.
He took to Facebook to write about it —
"A middle schooler got on my bus this evening and said mr johnny im hungry.
"I said why are you hungry buddy? Didn’t you eat lunch ?
"He said no sir I didn’t have any money on my account.
"I said they would let you charge it?
"No sir.

"No sir.
"Huh! What! This child is already on reduced lunch and we can’t let him eat. Are you kidding me?
"I’m certian there was leftover food thrown away today.
"But kids were turned away because they didn’t have .40 on there account .
"As a tax payer, I would much rather feed a child than throw it away.
"I would rather feed a child than to give food stamps to a crack head."

His post garnered much attention and was shared all over, going viral.
When the school's superintendent found out about the post, he investigated the situation, watching security footage of the lunchroom that day.
He concluded that the young boy was lying and that no such event occurred.
The following day, he called the kindhearted bus driver into his office.

He gave Johnny two choices.
Either he could recant his earlier Facebook post or get fired.
He chose to get fired.
"I felt like in my heart of hearts the kid was telling me the truth. Whether he was, whether he wasn't, I believe him.
"So I was not going to recant the story," Johnny explained.

Johnny's post gathered a lot of attention from all around the country.
People were writing to him telling stories of their own very similar experiences with schools and their child's lunch.
Regardless of what happened in this instance, it seems to be a nationwide issue that needs to be discussed. A child's nutrition is vital in order to learn and to maintain their health.
