Even though the game isn't real, the movie is – and so are these amazing behind-the-scenes facts aboutJumanji! These facts will make you want to rewatch the movie!
1. Kirsten Dunst and Bonnie Hunt have said in interviews that they loved working with Robin Williams because he could make everybody on set laugh.
Kirsten said she loved it when he would do an impression of Jodie Foster in Nell when she's ordering at the drive-thru.
2. Jumanjiis actually based on a picture on a picture book by Chris Van Allsburg. And according to Chris, "jumanji" is Zulu for "many effects."
Many effects? Like the effects the game has on the players? Nice!
3. Robin admitted that he didn't even need to act startled when Van Pelt is shooting at him because the blank gunfire was just so loud on set!
4. After the movie came out, people wanted to buy the board game. And it was so popular that a replica of the game was sold for $60,800 in 2014.
5. Robin loved the experience of filming Jumanji but he admitted that he wouldn't even let his kids see the movie. It's supposed to be a family movie but Robin thought it was too scary!
6. Robin said in an interview that when he was filming the scene where Alan wrestles a crocodile, he got too carried away and hit it with his elbow so hard that the man inside of the suit yelled, "Hey!"
7. Scarlett Johansson actually auditioned for the role of Judy Shepherd.
Obviously, Kirsten got the role in the end but it would've been interesting to see Scarlett playing Judy! Maybe she'll have a part in the remake of Jumanji?
8. Even though Robin is the star of the movie and got top billing, he doesn't actually appear until 28 minutes into the movie!
9. Jumanjiwas filmed in Keene, New Hamphsire and if you visit the town, you can still see the fictional Parrish Shoe sign painted on the side of a building!
10. When Judy, Sarah, Alan and Peter are playing Jumanji in the attic, Judy says she can win if she rolls a 12. Instead, she rolls a 3 and then Alan tells Judy that she'll win if she gets a 7. She needs a 9 to win!
11. Alan's family life in the movie reminded Robin of his own family. He said his dad "was a bit stern and kind of elegant."
But he says the strained relationship between Alan and his father was more like the relationship between his dad and his grandpa.
12. When Van Pelt enters the gun store, the Mexican national anthem is playing! But it had to be removed for the release in Mexico because it's against the law there to play the anthem in commercial situations!
13. Jumanji was advanced for its time with CGI. It even had an estimated budget of $50 million!
Whoa. Special effects in movies have come such a long way!
14. There are 110 spaces in the board game. Just in case you were wondering!
15. Not everybody catches this when they watch the movie but Van Pelt and Alan's dad are played by the same actor, Jonathan Hyde!
