A Beauty Blogger Got Called Out Creating A Vitiligo Makeup Look

SHARE
Another day, another beauty blogger controversy!

It's easy just to create an amazing makeup look from scratch and upload it to Instagram for the world to see, but you'd better make sure you've done all your research before doing that.

Instagram user @golgiknowsbest found this out when she uploaded a vitiligo makeup look that made the internet angry.

Recently, the beauty industry has been praised for widening the definition of what it means to be beautiful.

Rihanna came out with Fenty Beauty that included 40 foundationshades, Kay Customz created a doll with vitiligo, and Wet n Wild featured a model with albinism.

It's amazing that an industry that was once very exclusive is starting to make room for diversity. Unfortunately, sometimes people miss the mark when it comes to pushing for inclusiveness.

Like that recent controversy of Missguided possibly photoshoppingstretch marks onto their models.

A beauty blogger named @golgiknowsbest on Instagram has been creating gorgeous makeup looks for a while.

He's done rainbow eyes, unibrow looks, Halloween bug eyes, and more. The artistry and talent is A+.

But one particular makeup look stood out to people on the internet, and not in a good way. Golgi started getting a lot of attention for creating an insensitive makeup trend.

In a now-deleted post, Golgi uploaded a photo of herself with makeup that seemed to mimic vitiligo, a skin condition.

And people online were not having it at all.

Several people started to join in on calling Golgi out and expressing their feelings over the makeup look.

They accused Golgi of attempting to turn a skin condition into a makeup trend or a statement.

After receiving a ton of backlash, Golgi issued an apology on Instagram saying that she meant no harm and was just inspired by a fashion photo.

She didn't mean for the look to represent vitiligo, even though people thought the positioning of the makeup seemed to imitate Winnie Harlow.

Friendly reminder: There are ways to be inspired and to show your support for people. This was not the best way to go about it.

This controversy shows that we need to continue the discussion on beauty standards and breaking down barriers but in a respectful way!
