Even though the performances were amazing and the acceptance speeches were sweet, the most amazing moment from the show came from Alicia Keys. She bravely went on the red carpet and performed in front of millions with absolutely no makeup. And the reason why she did it will make you keep on fallin' in love with her.

Alicia's got killer vocals and she's insanely talented at writing songs and playing the piano. And now she's doing something incredible that solidifies her status as a role model.

Back in May, Alicia wrote a beautiful essay for Lenny Letter, Lena Dunham's newsletter.
She wrote that she realized a woman's worth isn't measured by the way she looks.
“Every time I left the house, I would be worried if I didn’t put on makeup: What if someone wanted a picture?? What if they POSTED it??? These were the insecure, superficial, but honest thoughts I was thinking,” she said.
“And all of it, one way or another, was based too much on what other people thought of me.”
Alicia didn't feel comfortable without makeup until she was at a photoshoot where the photographer wanted to take pictures of her natural look. Alicia was hesitant but then fell in love with the result.
"And I swear it is the strongest, most empowered, most free, and most honestly beautiful that I have ever felt."
From them on, she started the #NoMakeup movement!

She vowed that she didn't want to cover up anymore! '"Not my face, not my mind, not my soul, not my thoughts, not my dreams, not my struggles, not my emotional growth. Nothing."

And she's stuck to her word. She's been to several events fresh and bare faced!
So she showed up at the MTV VMAs without makeup for herself, for her fans and for any woman looking up to her to know that it's perfectly fine to show off the naked face!
Alicia's seriously started a movement because Alessia Cara also went to the VMAs without makeup. Alessia committed to remove all of her makeup every time she performs her song "Scars to Your Beautiful."
She said in Glamourmagazine that she doesn't want to live in a world where people don't think they're good enough or wish they could change multiple things about themselves.
"In ‘Scars,’ I wanted to tell people, ‘There isn’t one way to look beautiful—you are beautiful, and it’s the world that needs to change.’ ” Speak the truth, Alessia!
