In Philadelphia, the postneonatal mortality and infant mortality rates are nearly double that of the national average.

Dr. Megan Heere explains how one hospital is trying to combat this sad statistic with a fairly old-school method: safe sleep boxes for new babies.

They're giving out these fully-equipped boxes to the next 3,000 new mothers at Temple University Hospital in hopes of sparking change.

So what's in the boxes?

All the essentials: a thermometer, a sleep sack, a book that has instructions for safely putting baby to bed..and so much more! They even have little mini mattresses in the bottom for ultimate comfort for baby.

Watch the video above to learn more about safe sleep practices for new babies.
