In many cases, the difference between pun lovers and pun haters seems to be the passage of time. While people can live their entire lives thinking puns are the lowest form of humor, many of us grow up groaning at them only to finally find the one that breaks us.

Maybe it was so bad that you couldn't help but laugh hysterically at it or maybe it was so subtle that getting it was an achievement worthy of a big laugh in and of itself. Yet like many things in life, puns never end with just one.

Before you know it, you can find yourself wearing a big grin when you hear a bad pun instead of rolling your eyes like you used to. But of course, the cycle isn't complete until you find yourself dropping a terrible one on purpose just to see the room full of annoyed reactions.

Perhaps the best puns are the ones we have to work for, and the best way to do that is to just give us a picture and let us fill in the blanks.

After all, it should just jump out at you if you get it.

11. This pun might be a little trickier if you don't know what kind of dog this is.

But if you find yourself getting a little sad about it, don't worry because that's actually a clue.

12. This one got me, which is probably why it's one of my favorites on the list.
