16 Facts That Seem Too Fake To Be Real

The age of technology has made life so much more convenient for the masses. We're able to order things with a few clicks, can talk to people anonymously, and we can even connect with long lost friends, even if they live in completely different countries. Sadly, the mass amounts of anonymity and ability to spread information so easily makes it extremely hard to separate the truth from the lies. When things sound too good to be true, they often are, so it becomes increasingly more difficult to actually believe anything you read online, but that's why I'm here. Here are 16 facts that seem fake, but are most definitely real!

1. One lightning strike is powerful enough to power 56 houses for an entire day. That's SHOCKING, hah.

2. Sheep and goat can interbreed, creating a "shoat," or "geep."

3. A 5-year-old passed the Microsoft Exam to become Microsoft's youngest certified professional.

4. About 2/3 Australians will be diagnosed with skin cancer during their lifetime.

5. 80% Elevator close buttons aren't actually connected to anything. So much for pressing them as fast as possible...

6. Disneyland created Doritos as a way of recycling old tortillas. 

7. A study found that women who drank moderate amounts of alcohol suffered less cognitive decline and actually improved function than their abstinent counterparts. 

8. The average cloud weighs 1.1 MILLION pounds. Those are some juicy clouds.

9. America has ~22% of the world's imprisoned population, despite only representing ~4% of the world's total population.

10. Peregrine falcons hunt by diving upwards of 200 miles per hour and hitting their prey with a clenched foot. It's a literal falcon punch.

11. Both Charles Darwin and Steve Irwin owned the same tortoise, named Harriet.

12. The name Jessica was actually created by Shakespeare for his play, "Merchant of Venice."

13. The lighter was created BEFORE the match was. What.

14. Alaska is America's most northern, eastern, and western state. Interestingly, that's due to the Aleutian Islands.

15. The Great Pyramids were actually built by paid workers, not slaves.

16. If you put 23 people in the same room, there's a 50% chance at least two of them will share a birthday. Up it to 75 people and you're at a 99.9% chance!
