1. Wearing the wrong sized bra
Many women wear the wrong size of bra. Whether it's simply too small, or the wrong size altogether, it's something to look into. A lot of people are guilty of wearing a band size that's too large with a cup that's too small. Maybe you need to ditch the 34C for a better fitting 32D. Make sure to get measured and fitted.
2. Choosing a bra based on cup size
This one is a major no-no. Instead of thinking of your bra size in terms of cup sizes, try to find the proper band size. Once you have the right band size, then look for the cup. It'll make a world of difference.
3. Wearing an old bra
You may want to hold onto your bra for as long as you want, but remember, bras have a lifespan. On average, you should be using a bra for about 8 months, but this number can vary depending on how many bras you're cycling in and out. The more bras you're using, the longer they'll last.
4. Using the tightest bra hook
You might want to immediately use the tightest hook, but this goes back to buying the right band size. You should be able to comfortably progress from looser hooks to tighter ones as your bra stretches with use.
5. Bra band riding up your back
Your bra band riding up your back is a tell-tale sign of a poorly sized bra. The band should never be higher than the under-wire of your bra.
6. Wrong bra for the wrong outfit
You may want to wear one kind of bra with every single outfit, but know that they can end up being uncomfortable or not looking nice with your outfit. Try shopping for a variety of bras based on what you intend to wear.
7. Insisting on a contoured bra
While you may feel the firm shape of the contour bra (the ones that keep their shape even when they're in the drawer) is beneficial, you should take the time to figure out what suits your breasts better. If you have perkier, naturally high-seated breasts, then you can get away with a contoured bra. If you're like most women, though, a soft-seamed bra (the ones that mold to the shape of your breast and flatten in the drawer) is likely a better fit for you. A huge plus is that soft-seamed bras don't leave that awkward gap between the bra and your chest.
8. Wearing a bra two days in a row
While it's not really a hygiene issue (depending on what you do in your bra), it's actually harmful for the longevity of your bra. Giving your bra some time off allows the elastic to reset itself and maintain a higher level of firmness for a longer period of time.
9. Thinking you need a push-up bra
Some women may think their breasts are too small, but all sizes should be celebrated equally. Instead of opting for the push-up bra, try an unlined bra instead.
10. Using Woolite to wash your bras
While you may think it's just laundry detergent, it actually softens the elastic in your bra. Similarly to over-wearing the bra, softening the elastic ruins the longevity of it. Avoid anything that may soften the elastic and you'll increase the lifespan of your bra.
