12 Illustrations Shed Light On Mental Health Issues

SHARE
Throughout the month of October, many artists are participating in a drawing challenge called Inktober. The artists who participate in Inktober have to draw one ink drawing a day throughout the entire month. It's a lot of hard work, but the drawings are pretty awesome!

Shawn Coss is an artist who is participating in the challenge, and so far his drawings are raising a lot of awareness. His drawings are shedding light on various mental health issues. These illustrations will give you a better understanding of what these mental health issues are like.

1. Paranoid Schizophrenia

Paranoid schizophrenia is a type of schizophrenia in which the person who has it has delusions that people are plotting against them. I never really knew what paranoid schizophrenia was, but this drawing is really helping me understand.

2. Bipolar Disorder

This is a mental disorder that causes unusual shifts in mood, energy, and activity levels. So far, many people are loving Shawn's artwork, and it is helping them deal with their own mental health issues. So positive.

3. Agoraphobia

This drawing is a great depiction of what it's like to have agoraphobia. People who have agoraphobia have a fear of crowded spaces or enclosed public places.

4. Depersonalization Disorder

Depersonalization disorder is when a person has persistent episodes of feeling detached to their surroundings. After reading about this mental illness, the drawing makes a lot of sense to me.

5. Attention Deficit Disorder

Attention deficit disorder is a very common mental disorder. People who have this disorder have problems paying attention, and they have difficulty controlling their behavior.

6. Borderline Personality Disorder

This mental illness is when a person does not have the ability to manage emotions effectively.

7. Schizophrenia

Schizophrenia is a disorder that affects the way a person behaves and thinks. Many people suffer from mental illness, so hopefully this drawing will help people understand what this disorder is.

8. Obsessive Compulsive Disorder

Obsessive compulsive disorder is when someone has obsessive thoughts, unwanted thoughts, and ritualized behaviors they feel compelled to perform. This drawing is very tough to look at.

9. Dissociative Identity Disorder

Dissociative identity disorder is when someone's identity is fragmented into two or more distinct personalities. I never knew that this disorder existed.

10. Dependent Personality Disorder

People with dependent personality disorder tend to display needy, passive, and clinging behavior. They also have a fear of separation.

11. Major Depressive Disorder

This disorder makes a person lose interest or pleasure in normally enjoyable activities. This drawing is really helping me understand what depression is.

12. Cotard's Delusion

Cotard's delusion is a rare mental illness that makes a person believe that he or she is dead. What I love most about these drawings is that they're opening my eyes to all these different mental illnesses. I didn't know that some of these existed, so it's great to be informed and educated.
