The anticipation of opening the door to have your furriest friend come running straight for you. The feeling of seeing paws prancing as fast as possible. The moment you hug after a long day away.
Something amazing happens in this moment that was once nearly impossible to explain, but not anymore. Now? Science has pinpointed what this is, what's happening in that magical-feeling moment of reconnecting with your dog.
Let's learn what it is and SHARE with all the dog lovers out there!
The feeling of seeing your dog after a long day away has always been something I've held very dear to my heart.
I thought it was just the feels, but it turns out it runs even deeper than that!
A recent study conducted by Monash University in Australia and Pedigree Petfoods tells us exactly what's going on when we see our furry friends: our heartbeats sync up!
They discovered this after examining three pairs of dogs and their owners hooked up to heart monitors.
They separated the dogs and their owners and recorded the changes in their heartbeats before and after reuniting.
Within just one minute, the heart rates both dropped considerably and then aligned.
The drops in heart rate show this: dogs also benefit from a decrease in stress simply by being with their humans.
The canine expert in charge of the study couldn't be more pleased with the findings. It's a win/win for humans and dogs alike!
Mia Cobb says, “This kind of effect of experiencing a lowered heart rate makes a significant difference to our overall well-being. If we can decrease our heart rate by hanging out with our animals, that’s something that can really benefit the community.”
There you have it! Pass it on with a SHARE.
