A Broken Leg Didn't Stop This Dog From Leading Rescuers Two Miles To Her Puppies

In the town of Vera in southern Spain, a starving greyhound with a broken leg was picked up by 49-year-old Lianne Powell and taken to a local vet. While treating the leg, the vet, Ellen Sobry, noticed that the dog was producing milk, and realized that she must have given birth within the last week. Somewhere out there was a litter of puppies in need of help.

The dog was named Vera after the town where she was found. It's thought she was dumped by hunters who believed she was no longer useful for hunting.

Hoping that Vera would trust them enough to lead them to her pups, Lianne and Ellen found her a collar and long leash, then walked her back to the market she'd been found in.

She lead them two miles to an abandoned car, where ten puppies were huddled inside.

She may have been weak and even dragged her new cast at times, but Vera knew where she was going. The car's windows were covered with cardboard, and the pups were curled together in the backseat.

Vera is recovering well, and the clinic has teamed up with a local rescue group to find homes for all the puppies.

Ellen says that Vera "is recovering great, the only thing she has to worry about now is eating, feeding her puppies and sleeping."
